Slimmer of the Year 2009 - FINALIST
Suzanne says….

The waist was expanding, the face was getting rounder and the hips were wider and painful. What do I do? DIET!! That’s easier said than done, I can’t say no to a chocolate éclair, but I had to do something. I now qualify for a bus pass and I cannot cope with this extra baggage any longer. I lead a very active lifestyle enjoying gardening, walking and training my Border Collies for competing in Working Trials.

I have a friend, Sonia, who also wanted to lose weight and learn how to eat sensibly and so we joined the Church Gresley class together. With much trepidation we entered the room – were we going to like it? What would it be like? What a revelation! Such friendly people - we were welcomed by a round of applause! The diet was explained fully and we both went away after our first night feeling that we were now taking control of our eating habits.

I started in October 2007 and by Christmas I had shed 18lbs. The only way I could get through Christmas was without the tempting festive foods completely – but it was worth it!

Slowly but with an encouraging downward trend the pounds started to come off with family and friends making heartening remarks about my changing shape, this made me even more determined to go that extra mile. The charity shops have done well with my 20 & 22 size outfits. It is now a wonderful feeling to be able to go into clothes shops and buy size 14 trousers and a dress that fits without trying to hide lumps and bumps.

It is not an easy journey, but not an impossible one. I can’t thank Peggy, my Consultant, and everyone at class enough for all their support. Help from my husband Pete – his encouragement and support was always there – thank you.

The diet has been very good for me and I enjoy my food, albeit on smaller plates and I believe that a steady weight loss is by far the best way to diet.
